THE stirling work done by volunteers is to be recognised at the annual meeting of Okehampton and District Council for Voluntary Service next week.

Cllr Christine Marsh, mayor of Okehampton, is to present certificates at the meeting and is hosting a buffet supper.

Cllr Marsh said at last week's meeting of the council: 'I feel, as a town, we should recognise these volunteers and what they do for the whole community.'

In addition to the presentation and buffet, two speakers have been invited to the attend the meeting.

They are West Devon councillor Margaret Garton, who is chairman of the Community Council of Devon and a Deputy Lieutenant of the county, and Graham Payne of Rapid UK, who has been involved in rescues from natural disasters all over the world.

The meeting on Tuesday, June 6, begins at 6.30pm.
