VOLUNTEERS from Tavistock and District Conservation Trust have this week been hard at work clearing trees and undergrowth from the viaduct at Bedford Bridge, near Horrabridge, in preparation for a new cycle path. The path will ultimately mean people can cycle along the old railway route from Whitchurch to Horrabridge, taking in the Grenofen tunnel and crossing a spectacular new bridge across the Walkham Valley, at the point where the original railway viaduct across the river was situated. Peter Odell, project officer with TDCT, said: ?We will probably be working up there for about six days, clearing trees and undergrowth from the viaduct and on either side, in preparation for the cycle path. ?Last year we cleared out the section between Magpie viaduct and where the new bridge will be ? it?s made quite a difference.? Anyone who would like to know more about the work carried out in the Tavistock area by the conservation trust, or who would like to join volunteer work with the group, can call Peter Odell on 01822 610071 for more information.
