TAVISTOCK Golf Club was the setting for a concert by Canticorum in aid of the Tavistock Triangle and the Chemotherapy Outreach project.
The members of the four part choir are drawn from across the Tamar Valley, rehearsing in Callington but performing on both sides of the river and beyond.
As always the program was varied incorporating music from madrigals to the Beatles, folk songs to modern musicals and all stations in between. Starting quietly with 'Where the Gentle Avon Flows' the choir then livened up proceedings with Morleys madrigal 'Fyer Fyer' and The Beatles 'Can't Buy Me Love' sung in madrigal style.
Songs by Cole Porter, Gershwin, Holst and Whitaker among others followed, interspersed with duets, small groups and monologues from members of the choir.
Carol Clarke and Kathy Caves sang 'I Know Him So Well' from the musical 'Chess' and the 'Bere Belles' choir members from the Bere Peninsula, performed 'Amazing Grace' and 'June is Busting Out All Over'.
Maggie Peacock gave a monologue written by Stanley Holloway telling of the further adventures of Albert (of Albert and the Lion Fame) when he swallowed a guinea coin. A rousing rendition of 'When the Saints' arranged by John Rutter saw the audience singing for their supper, after a little rehearsal, by joining in the last verse.
During the interval the work of the Tavistock Triangle charity was explained by Lesley Gibson and everyone present was able to check their tickets for the superb prizes so kindly donated and organised by members of the Golf Club and others.
A good sum of money was raised and many thanks are due to our MC Alan Pope for the evening and to Elizabeth Holmes, ably assisted by Elaine Rimron who planned and organised a most successful and enjoyable evening.
