PUPILS from Mary Tavy and Brentor Primary School sang their hearts out at Wembley Arena recently, alongside thousands of other pupils from across the UK in the 'Voice in a Million' charity event.
Twenty six pupils from key stage two at the primary school were among almost 7,000 pupils who had to learn 15 songs to sing together at the charity event, which aims to raise awareness of the plight of children in care both in the UK and abroad.
The pupils, along with the mass children's choir, were joined in song by celebrity singers such as Alesha Dixon and X-Factor boy band 'Overload Generation'.
Now celebrating its fifth year, the Voice in a Million concert presents an opportunity of a lifetime for school children from all backgrounds throughout the UK to join together, united in song.
Mary Tavy and Brentor Primary Year 6 pupil Jared said they spent nine hours in the arena rehearsing — but it was worth it.
He said: 'I wasn't really nervous but it was really good.
'There were people on the stage and we were sat all around the edge.'
Fellow Year 6 pupil Issey said: 'I was really excited but nervous.
'It was really fun watching all the other children doing it too. It was amazing.'
The children were given a list of songs to practise before the concert, including one they had to learn sign language for as well.
Teacher at Mary Tavy and Brentor Primary Mrs Carowicz organised the trip, which also saw the children visit St Paul's Cathedral, the Science Museum and stopped off at Legoland on their way home.
The pupils then performed the repertoire of songs at a concert in Mary Tavy Coronation Hall when they returned, for all their families to hear.
Head teacher Nicky Pratten said: 'It was absolutely amazing.
'The children were so well behaved and performed really, really well.
'I couldn't fault them at all. They were buzzing afterwards. To be there with 6,500 other children and thousands of adults was just an amazing experience for them.'
