Okehampton Seconds 3

Newtown 1

OKEHAMPTON played hosts to promotion hopefuls Newtown in a game where the home side were worthy of taking all three points.

Okehampton were slow to settle but as soon as they started playing football they caused all sort of problems for the visitors.

Williams and Reddington were on terms up front. Yip's flick found Williams on the edge of the box and his left foot shot sailed into the bottom right hand for a well deserved goal.

Okehampton kept the pressure on a scramble after a corner fell to Roger Voaden who smashed the ball into the roof of the net, to put Okehampton 2-0 up at half-time.

Okehampton came out and were slow to settle but kept it right through good defending from Wilson, Gilbert and Letchford, Graham Soby did not lose a battle at the back all day.

Okehampton's killer goal came with 25 minutes to go when Reddington broke clear of the defence and unselfishly squared the ball to Voaden whose shot sailed in via a deflection.

Short won every aerial battle in the middle of the park and Jones worked tirelessly.

Pengelly was denied a clean sheet when the Newtown striker scored following a corner with minutes remaining.
