Callington Town . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .1

Newquay . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .6

THE agony etched on the faces of most Callington Town fans as the half time whistle went barely did justice to how they felt as their team were outplayed by a feisty Newquay team who grabbed the gifts given by the home players with relish at Ginsters Marshfield Parc.

Chief present receiver was Jody Dean who grabbed a well taken hat trick courtesy of the benine Town defence that too easily laid down in the first period.

The initial signs did look promising for Callington as Lance Bailey went close on 7 minutes but it was the visitors who took the lead four minutes later.

Matt Wilmott was the scorer with a fine angled drive across the area from the right that wrong footed Andy Brenton in the Town goal.

On 19 minutes, a combined defensive error allowed Dean onto a loose ball and he accepted the gift fully as he fired past Brenton.

Worse was to follow two minutes later when another defensive blunder allowed Bradley Ralph the easiest of shots to put the visitors 3-0 ahead.

Then, with only 26 minutes gone, Dean grabbed his second with the Town rearguard left standing to make the half time score 4-0 to Newquay.

It could have been even worse for the home side had Brenton not made a couple of fine saves but within five minutes of the restart, Newquay had grabbed another two to leave the home supporters reeling. First Bradley Ralph netted his second before Dean completed his hat trick with a well taken strike.

The Callington players were clearly reeling at this point but, to their credit, they did not stop trying and during the final 20 minutes had the better of the play and could have scored on no fewer than four occasions, but were limited to one goal through a Dominic Farris chip on 63 minutes.

The final whistle brought some comfort to the home side with the news that their seconds had won their fourth match on the trot and that St Austell, behind them in last place in the league had gone down 6-0 at Liskeard Athletic to keep Ian Southcott's charges off the bottom.
