I WAS interested to see in a recent issue of the Times an advertisement for the Tavistock School of Motoring. I believe this to be a descendant of the Tavistock Driving School started by my father in the late ?50s. It ran successfully for many years before changing hands. At the time we lived at Crowndale, later to move to Millbrook Villas in Parkwood Road. By this time I had joined the Royal Navy Submarine Service and been drafted to Australia, and therefore was unable to carry on the family business. More than 50 years have passed, but memories remain strong. A visit to Tavistock last year, as always, provoked the inevitable trip down that pot-holed road known to us all as memory lane. However, I ramble. Thanks to the internet I remain in touch with school friends with whom I shared a brick air raid shelter during the early ?40s.
