EVERY year Lions Clubs International sponsors a children's poster competition and for 2010 the title is 'Vision of Peace'.
This is an international competition with a fantastic prize — a trip to the award ceremony at Lions Day with the United Nations in New York and a cash award of more than £1,000. To enter you have to be 11, 12 or 13 years of age on November 15, 2010.
Tavistock Lions Club thought it would be a good idea to extend the competition on a local level so that younger children could also take part.
Organiser Lions Club member Alan Wroath, said he was delighted with the number of schools that were already involved.
'We shall submit the best poster from an artist in the right age group for the international competition — so who knows? Someone from Tavistock may be flying out to New York but there will be lots of prizes and certificates for younger children in their own schools and in the area.'
The presentation evening for the poster competition will be part of carnival week and be held in the Tavistock Church Parish Centre at 6pm on Thursday July 15. The following week there will be an exhibition of the posters in Tavistock Library.
If anyone between the ages of 8 and 13 would like to take part, Alan Wroath would be happy to hear from them. Contact him for more details at 19 Glanville Road, Tavistock. The closing date is Friday, June 15.
