BERE Ferrers villagers will get the chance to vote for their favourite scheme when plans for a proposed children?s playground area are launched later this month. The Bere Ferrers Villagers? Group will hold the launch on Saturday, February 26, with the church hall seeing a host of children?s activities from 1pm to 4pm, plus a table-top sale and light refreshments. There will be a disco at Bere Ferrers Social Club, starting at 6.30pm for younger children and continuing into the night for older ones. Both venues will display the two designs for the proposed playground in the recreation field, with people on hand to explain the schemes ?residents will be able to vote for their favourite design. Two companies were asked to submit schemes. One is expected to cost £25,000 and the other £30,000. Grant applications are being prepared. The villagers? group saw the completion of a new tennis court in the recreation field last year, and the playground area is the next phase in making the facilities on the field suitable for as wide a range of users as possible. The group sent out questionnaires concerning the play area to everyone in the village last year, to which they received the ?expected? volume of response ? around 10 to 15%. But everyone who replied said they were happy to help at events and gave wholehearted support for anything to help the children in the village, a spokesperson said. The group has already held various fundraising events for the playground, including a table-top sale, quiz night and carol singing. Events planned so far include a Great Easter Egg Hunt on March 26 and an auction and sponsored abseil.
