BERE Alston has been stunned by the death of a ?lovely? 20-year-old woman who lived in the village with her family.
The body of Ali Anderson was found before 8am last Saturday by British Transport Police on the railway track near Furzehill Bridge, Bere Alston. Shocked friends and neighbours have laid flowers and condolence notes on the bridge.
Police initially asked for help in identifying the young woman, who was described as wearing a necklace with the letter A attached. She was due to be formally identified yesterday (Wednesday) by her father, who is in the Merchant Navy and who flew home from abroad.
A Devon and Cornwall police spokesperson said the death was not being treated as suspicious. It was believed she had fallen 60 feet to her death from the top of the bridge.
Ali, who had attended the sixth form at Tavistock College, had worked for just over a year in care in the community as a care assistant ? helping the elderly and disabled in their homes ? and was much loved by all her clients.
She had previously worked in the Spar shop in Bere Alston and before that at a hairdresser?s in Tavistock.
Friend Carol Beavis, who had worked with Ali at the hairdresser?s, said she would be ?really, really missed?. ?She was always good fun and you couldn?t help notice her. But she was very caring and if anyone had a problem she was happy to be there,? she said.
A family friend said everybody thought the world of Ali. She was a lovely girl, always saying ?hi?, who had a bubbly personality and an amazing smile. Her death had come as a huge shock.
Trains on the line from Plymouth to Gunnislake were cancelled and the road was closed on Saturday while police carried out investigations.
The post-mortem examination was held on Tuesday afternoon, but the result was not known at the time of going to press.
