SPREYTON has plenty to celebrate after being named as the Best Kept Small Village in Devon in a prestigious competition. In the small village section of the competition run by the Commission for the Protection of Rural England and sponsored by Mole Valley Farmers, Spreyton had the winning entry. Spreyton won the coveted title after judges were impressed on a visit to the village earlier this summer. The village beat 14 others from across the county to land the title. Clerk to Spreyton Parish Council Clive Wootton said Spreyton had been entering the competition for several years, and gradually improving, so it was very satisfying to have all the hard work rewarded at long last. Mr Wootton said the credit should go to the community in general, all of whom had done their bit to ensure the village looks beautifully kept during the summer.
