LAMERTON Flower, Music and Garden Festival received a tremendous boost last week with the presentation of a cheque for £500 by Cllr Roy Connelly on behalf of Devon County Council.

The festival to celebrate Heaven in Devon will be held over the weekend of July 24 and will consist of a magnificent set of flower arrangements in St Peter's Church, Lamerton, which will be complemented by evening concerts in the church.

A number of village gardens will be open in the village and surrounding area together with a photographic exhibition in the village hall depicting archive photos of Lamerton from the 1800s to the present.

To complement this journey, photographs entered in the 'What Lamerton Means To You' competition will show how the village has evolved by those that enjoy living in the community.

The festival will close with a Songs of Praise evening on the Sunday.

This is a major fundraising event for the urgent repairs to the church tower and for the chosen charity Help for Heroes. Cllr Connelly said: 'This is another fine example of the community spirit of the people of Lamerton and we are very pleased to support it.'

Ian Minshull, chairman of the festival group, is pictured receiving the cheque, accompanied by Sally Noy Scott (right), in charge of flowers and Maria Collier music and concert arranger.

Said Ian: 'This is a marvellous endorsement of our efforts following on from the support we have had from Lamerton Parish Council.'
