TAVISTOCK Ladies 1st X1 Hockey Team took on Okehampton in the local derby match on Saturday.
Tavistock went on the attack at the onset of the game.
Jo Gaspar and Emma White made some excellent runs down the pitch and were able to cross the ball to Judy Miller who had a few shots at goal.
Laura Stapleton and Susannah Boulle broke down the opposition's line of attack and Fiona Dunn was always there to re-possess the ball if they broke through the strong midfield.
A short corner was awarded to Tavistock. Stapleton took a hefty strike at the keeper and the ball was secured in the goal.
Laura Armstrong had a good game on the wing and battled hard in keeping possession of the ball.
The second goal came from Miller who was watching in the 'D' ready for the ball to come across and catch the opposition unaware.
Okehampton were kept out of the 'D' by Dunn and Babs Horton but the odd time they did break through Zoe Viggers made some excellent saves and kept a close eye on the ball.
Boulle, White and Gaspar produced excellent stick work, which made life pretty tough for Okehampton. Another short corner was awarded and Stapleton scored her second goal of the match.
At half-time the score read 3-0 to Tavistock.
In the second half, Tavistock were down to 10 players and the forward line of Gaspar, White and Armstrong worked hard to keep the ball up the attacking end of the pitch. Gill Court and Sandra Collar had excellent games through the midfield and were quick to intercept any attacking ball.
Boulle, Stapleton, Dunn and Horton all used each other to create space and intercept the opposition.
White had the ball and drove it along the base line and was able to pass to Gaspar who struck an excellent ball past the keeper.
With only 10 players on the pitch, Tavistock were playing a high standard of hockey and still keeping possession. Viggers had a good game and managed to deflect an aerial ball aiming for the goal.
It was only in the last 20 seconds that Okehampton managed to sneak a goal past Viggers. The final score was 4-1 to Tavistock.
This now leaves Tavistock second in the league tables before the break for Christmas.
This week Tavistock are at home at 12.30pm with a friendly match against Plym Valley 2nd XI.
Player Of The Match: Gill Court.
