Premier League Bere Alston Utd 3 Polperro 2 BERE started the new year with Paul Blatchford installed as the new manager. Bere were soon awarded a penalty with Mark Wheeler?s shot hitting a post and Ross Hann?s follow up clear of the line for a corner. This put Polperro into gear, as on the counter attack Bere had to defend desperately as their speedy forwards caused lots of problems. Polperro went in front out-pacing Bere?s defence. Bere had a let-off as a new law involving encroachment at a Polperro penalty resulted in the goal being disallowed. But Polperro caught Bere?s defence again for number two. After half time Bere transformed into the talented team they are, with 45 minutes of top notch football. From a corner Hann rose to head home. From an indentical corner he repeated the act. Polperro?s keeper was now at full stretch. Polperro?s back line were run ragged and in the last minute a tired Polperro defender miskicked and Will Westlake reacted first to turn home the winner. Lewdown 3 Bere Alston Reserves 4 BERE started brightly and were one nil up within ten minutes, after Robinson ran on to a great through ball and smashed it home. Lewdown started to come at Bere more, but Bere soaked the pressure up well with the back four looking particularly assured. With Lewdown pressing on Bere were getting plenty of joy on the counter attack. During one of these counter attacks there was a melee in the Lewdown area and Bere Alston debute striker Tim Craig managed to bundle the ball over the goal line. With five minutes of the first half remaining Bere were still looking confident and self-assured. Lewdown hounded a huge throw into the Bere penalty area and with Lewdown?s vastly superior height advantage they bundled the ball home. Bere came out firing again in the second half and restored their two goal advantage after ten minutes after a superb defence splitting ball from Mckinnon, which Robinson again the quickest to react and made sure with a neat finish. Bere than wasted a couple of gilt edged chances. Lewdown started to apply pressure to Bere?s back line. Once again with another long through and a melee in the box, which was unsuccessfully dealt with Lewdown scored their second through an unfortunate own goal from Dan O?Hare. Bere wasted two more clear opportunities to regain the lead. Just as it looked as though the game was heading for a draw, a quick throw from Bentley to Lutchford already in full stride, clinically played the ball into Robinson in the box, who smashed it into the underside of the bar. Liddcott reacted quickest to head home a dramatic finish to the game. Man of the match: Charlie Hone. Bere Alston?s next game: home to Padstow.
