Tiverton 12 Tavistock 25 TAVISTOCK produced one of their best performances of the season on Saturday to beat Tiverton and leapfrog over them to third place in the Cornwall and Devon League. This victory, Tavistock?s eighth in a row, was based on good team work and was a massive bonus as they travelled with a much changed side from their last league outing. Tavistock took the lead early in the first half when, after winning a lineout deep in Tiverton territory, they drove the maul towards the Tiverton line and Andy Hunt peeled off to score in the corner. Tavistock extended their lead midway through the half when a break by flyhalf Josh Sutton was supported by second row Paul Edwards. He offloaded to Andrew Griffiths whose pass allowed full back Kyle Langdon to step inside the cover defence and score close to the posts. Josh Sutton converted to give Tavistock a twelve point lead. In what was virtually the last move of the first half, Tiverton got back into the game when wing Tim Greenslade crossed for Steve Cockerham to convert. Early in the second half Tavistock reasserted themselves when scrum half and skipper Lee Greatrex made a break and number eight Andrew Griffiths in support powered over from ten metres out. Back came Tiverton with an unconverted try by winger Will Paine. Tavistock then turned the screw and the forwards won a stream of good possession. This allowed Lee Greatrex to provide Josh Sutton with time to keep Tiverton penned in their own half with tactical kicks. From this pressure Tiverton transgressed by handling in the ruck and Josh Sutton slotted over the penalty goal from near halfway. The final score appropriately came from the Tavistock pack when a catch and drive from a lineout was dotted down by man of the match Paul Greenhill. Tavistock?s next league game is on March 12 when they entertain Kingsbridge at Sandy Park. Kick off 2.30pm.
