TAVISTOCK Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club's last away match of the season was played at Paignton on Saturday in brilliant sunshine and resulted in a narrow 120-118 victory for Tavistock, thanks to their winning on four of the six rinks played.
Skip Roy Northam won his fourth match on the trot (22-17). Skip Sandy Sanders and his squad of Brian Preece, Geoff Cork and Anne Doidge won 20-18, while skip Stuart Doidge led his team of Stann Finn, Val Southern and Norman Paramor to a 24-15 victory.
Club captain Mike Allen and his team of Vic Doidge, Albert Townsend and Betty Browse won 27-16. Tavistock skips Rob Bowhay (19-28) and Walter Meek (10-24) both saw their teams lose.
Tuesday's match against Torpoint ended in an equally tight finish with Tavistock edging out 118-117 winners in the end.
Tavistock skip Jean Flay saw her team of Vic Doidge, Pauline Finn and Yvonne Meneer win 19-15. Skip Roy Northam and his squad of Joyce Drew and husband and wife, Joan and Gordon Northey won 29-9.
Skip Betty Browse and her team of Lionel Sims, Audrey Northam and Wallace Northey won 24-19. Skip Der Saunders and his team fought out a 15-15 draw. Tavistock skips Ron Cooper (14-37) and John Smith (19-22) both lost.
Wednesday saw the visit of Henlease Bowling Club in a match which Tavistock won four of the six rinks played, to take 126-102.
Tavistock skip Der Saunders and his team of Brian Preece, Joyce Drew and Wallace Northey won 21-18. Skip Mike Allen led his team of Jenny Alderidge, Vic Doidge and Pat Sykes to a 41-10 victory, while skip Eric Stevens and his team of Ray Meneer, Anne Doidge and John Smith won 18-14.
Skip Roy Northam led Joyce Drew, Pauline Finn and Wallace Northey to an 18-15 victory. Skips Ron Cooper (12-25) and Stuart Doidge (16-20) saw their teams lose.
The ladies' section played one match during the week, against Buckfastleigh. Tavistock lost on both rinks, with skip Betty Browse and her team of Freda Isaac, Joyce Drew and Gill Saunders, going down 15-25, while skip Marion Allen saw her team of Dorice Hicks, Hazel Lovell and Marlene Paramor lose 18-20.
