THE LAMBS earned points last Friday evening, to ease their relegation fears. However the following day there were some surprising results, which saw the team around the getting good results, to once again close the gap. However the Lambs do climb two places in the league table to sixth from bottom.

Both teams were testing each other out in the opening stages, as it was evident to see that this was a crucial game for both teams. It was the Lambs who took the lead in the 20th minute. After a free kick taken from Martin Sullivan found Ryan Honey on the edge of the penalty area, his shot was brilliantly turned away for a corner by Tom Buckler in the Bovey goal. From the resultant corner kick by Kojo Ofori captain Jamie Ahern scored with a fine header.

This spurred the visitors into action and they had two chances to equalise, firstly when Roger Bonaparte sent a free header wide of the target. It was Andy Meeds that came to the home side's rescue when he made a great save from a Lee Chapman diving header. The Lambs had opportunities to increase their lead before the interval when Kojo Ofori the made a penetrating run from deep and advanced into the visitors penalty area, where he made the wrong decision to have a shot, rather than play in either Sullivan or Honey who were unmarked.

Then Martin Sullivan produced a great pass to split the Bovey defence which found Ryan Honey, but his fierce shot which looked destined to hit the net was cleared to safety.

In the second half the home team increased the pressure on the visitors defence on many occasions. In the 49th minute from a free kick, John James fired over the bar when well placed. Minutes later Dan Pethick beat his full back with ease before seeing his fierce shot soaring over the bar. Sullivan then after some wonderful foot work to beat his marker, and produce a great cross which Pethick headed just over.

In the 70th Minute Bovey's hopes of a revival were reduced when skipper Lee Chapman was shown a second yellow, which was immediately followed by a red card for a rash challenge on Dan Pethick

The Lambs took advantage of the extra man and pushed forward. Substitute Levi Landricombe was soon in the action when he replaced Ryan Honey in 72nd minute, forcing a good save from Buckler. Minutes later the same player was set free, only to see his lob over the advancing keeper land on the roof of the net. The home side should have put the result beyond doubt during this period with chances falling to Sullivan, Pethick and Landricombe. They were nearly made to pay in the 87th minute when a rare attack into Lambs territory saw Andy Meeds come to the rescue, when he pulled off a magnificent save to keep the home side ahead.

Then it was Buckler's turn to produce a top quality save to prevent Landicombe from scoring. However in stoppage time Landricombe got his just reward when he again broke from deep, and although forced wide his fierce cross –shot flew past Buckler and inside the far post.

This was a good result by the Lambs it an crucial effort to be avoid a relegation dog fight.

TAVISTOCK were given an early scare when goal keeper Jay Richmond pulled off a great save to deny the visitors the lead. The Lambs the settled down and took the lead through Kevin Hatch who produce a fine finish after beating two defenders. In a goalmouth scramble Sean Cox made it two nil before the interval. The Lambs played some really attractive football in the first half.

The visitors came more into the game in the second period and put the home defence under some pressure until Ben Langdon's cross was met by Cox to make the game safe, after Hall had beat two players in the build up.

This was another good performance by a young reserve team. This can only be good for the future of the club.

Tavistock firsts are at home to St Blazey on Tuesday, March 22, kick-off 7.30pm.
