OKEHAMPTON men?s hockey team emerged victorious in the first league game of the season.

The visiting side started well but were not expecting to be beaten back by superior play.

Veteran Richard Jones opened the home side?s scoring run and experienced passing from Tim Morgan, Simon Bourne and Colin Lethbridge helped Mark Parsons get his first goal of three.

St Austell almost got a second goal from a short corner, but the shot was turned away by a great save from keeper Andy Harvey.

Mark Clapham commanded the defensive line with John Cross and Mike Reynolds to keep the Cornishmen at bay, while Parsons fired in another two goals.

Rolling subs Stuart Jarvis, Joff and Martin Jones played well on the wings,with M Jones blasting in a shot from the top of the D.

For all interested, training is on Tuesday, 8.15pm to 9.15pm at the astroturf.
