HATHERLEIGH'S vicar has had trouble getting his message across after a poster he put up near his church was torn down for the third time.
The Rev Alex Welby has put up a number of large posters in Hatherleigh and the surrounding area advertising an Alpha course — a special course providing an introduction to the Christian faith — starting later this month.
He has put posters around Hatherleigh, Meeth and Exbourne during the last fortnight, and while most of them have remained in place, a handful have been torn down by vandals.
The dogged man in the dog-collar has been forced to go out with hammer and nails and put the posters back up again himself.
The Hatherleigh Alpha course is due to start on Tuesday, September 30. But before then, there is a chance to find out what the course is all about at an Alpha party at the Acorns Tearooms in Hatherleigh on Tuesday September 23, at 7.15pm.
Mr Welby said it was estimated half a million people would take part in the Alpha course in Britain this year alone.
The course is used in more than 100 countries and is suitable for all denominations.
