GOOD hearted staff at a Tavistock veterinary practice have donated a welcome injection of cash towards a charity fundraiser by one of their clients writes John Hutchins.

Westmoor Veterinary Centre handed over a cheque for £968 last Thursday to Tim Faircloth — and his three-year old cross breed Alfie — towards the £10,000 target Tim is determined to raise for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

Tim received the sponsorship after riding his bike recently from Land's End to John O'Groats, accompanied by fellow cyclist Chris Lord. The ride was in memory of Tim's father John William Faircloth, who suffered, and eventually died, from chronic lymphatic leukaemia.

Tim, aged 40 and from Lamerton, thanked Westmoor vet Mark Towl and the rest of the staff for their generous donation.

One of Tim's dogs, a boxer called Henry, was always nervous of visiting the vets but Tony was really impressed at how Westmoor staff helped his dog overcome that fear. He has since been a regular client at Westmoor.

Mark Towl said: 'Tim was telling me about his efforts to raise money for Cancer Research.

'By chance it tied in with our idea for raising money for charity. Each year, Westmoor will be sponsoring a charity and this is the first.

'We are part of the community and I think it is important that we give something back to it so we have decided to give a percentage of the income from all our vaccines administered throughout the year.

'We plan to do something for, perhaps, three different charities and involve our clients to decide where the money goes.'

Tim and Chris are now just £1,000 short of their target. To contribute, go on to the JustGiving website timandchris-lejog.blogspot.com
