Despite the threat of showers, the annual Fireworks and Bonfire Night party at Mount House School attracted a large crowd of pupils, parents and past parents, who enjoyed the exciting, professional display.

The grounds of the school form a natural amphitheatre, ideal for safe viewing.

Guests of honour for the evening were the deputy mayor and mayoress of Tavistock, Cllr Harry and Mrs Mary Smith.

On a chilly, damp evening, hot soup was available, while the Friends of Mount House provided a hog roast, and mulled wine for the adults.

After the firework display, continuing a long-standing Mount House tradition, the huge bonfire was lit, under the watchful eye of the experts, by the youngest pupil in the prep school, Verena Whitbread, who was cheered to the echo by her fellow pupils.
