A RESIDENT at a West Devon care home has enjoyed a long and full life, having just celebrated her 101st birthday.

Vera Louise Wakeham celebrated her big birthday on December 9 along with friends and family.

Vera was born in 1915 at the beginning of the First World War to Roland and Florence Madge. Roland worked on the railway and Vera had an older sister called Marjorie.

Nursing was how Vera spent her working life and she was married to Fred for 40 years. The couple had two children and spent most of their life in Devon.

She now has six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Vera is said to take great pride in her appearance. She loves having her nails painted and always has her lipstick on!

Vera spent six years at Devonia Nursing Home and moved to Camplehaye Residential Home earlier this year.
