FIREFIGHTERS from Okehampton were called to tackle two car fires at separate locations near the town last week.
On Friday at about midday, the crews extinguished a blaze in a vehicle at the Hillfield estate in South Zeal ? about half the car was severely damaged by fire.
And on Saturday, again around midday, the east-bound carriageway of the A30 was closed while firefighters tackled a blaze in a car near the Meldon flyover.
Station officer Ian Donovan said: ?Immediately after the fire, we had to assist police in clearing sheep off the highway. The dual carriageway was totally stopped because of the fire, so we were able to deal with the sheep at the same time.
?The traffic was stopped for about 25 minutes, causing quite a build up.?
