INSTANT access to a world of information is coming soon to communities throughout Devon, including Tavistock, on board a state-of-the-art vehicle specially commissioned by Devon County Council.
Equipped with the latest technology, the vehicle will give people in rural areas the chance to use the internet and experience the benefits of going on-line.
The Devon In Touch Roadshow is a partnership between Devon County Council, the BBC and Devon Fire and Rescue and is where people can also find out more about county council services and how to access them.
The vehicle, which was launched last week and will arrive in Tavistock on September 18, is equipped with six computers for free use by the public and already has bookings all over Devon.
With money made available from the Government, Devon In Touch is aimed at connecting rural communities by encouraging people who do not currently use the internet to give it a try.
It will also promote county council services and important public information initiatives such as CAREdirect, an advice and information service for the over 60s, and safety in the home.
People can learn how to send an e-mail, explore the internet or search out information about their favourite hobby.
Over the coming months the Devon In Touch Roadshow will be joined by specialist advisors with information about road safety, traffic calming, adult learning courses and many other topics.
Cllr Christine Channon, who is the council?s champion for electronic government, said: ?The internet has come to play an important part in everyone?s life and as more and more council, local government and government services become available on-line, we want to ensure as many people as possible take advantage of them.
?In order to achieve this goal, it is vital that we first address the issue of access and the Devon in Touch Roadshow aims to do just this.?
