HEAVY queues of traffic formed on the A30 around Whiddon Down last Thursday, when firefighters were called to deal with a vehicle fire on the dual carriageway.
The incident occurred around 2pm between Drews Cottage and Merrymeet. Firefighters from Chagford and Moretonhampstead extinguished a fire in the vehicle using two sets of breaking apparatus, a hosereel jet and a comparessed air foam jet.
The blaze had spread to the grass verge at the side of the road, which crews extinguished using beaters.
The vehicle was severely damaged by the fire, and around 20 metres of grass verge.
A trailer containing 18 calves, which the vehicle was pulling, had been disconnected prior to the arrival of the fire crews.
The cause of the blaze was accidental.
