VANDALS ruined hours of work and spoiled children?s enjoyment when they wrecked 20 scarecrows at Strawberry Fields at Lifton. Thieves broke into the complex between Thursday and Friday last week, and stole cans of drink, then ripped apart the scarecrows, scattering the debris over the fields. Owner Jo Mounce said the scarecrows had taken many hours to make and were provided for the enjoyment of children. The scarecrows, resembling characters such as Mickey and Minnie Mouse and the Flower Pot Men, had their faces completely smashed in. The remains have had to be thrown away, but Mrs Mounce said they would be making more scarecrows to please the children, during the summer holidays.
