Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 2 Essanians 2 AS this was a non-league match, Tavistock ladies' hockey team were determined to pull out all the stops and gain experience from playing a side in a higher division. Tavistock worked hard to retain possession. Nikki Woodroffe, Emma White and Laura Stapleton were strong through midfield and did an excellent job of holding up play of the ball. The opposition used spaces on the pitch better than Tavistock and an early ball through allowed them to come into the D hard and fast. A Tavistock defender intercepted the ball but was at the wrong angle and it was slotted into her own goal. Tavistock's Robynne Honey had some excellent runs up the pitch and crossed some good feeds into the D. Becky Lamb played well on the forward line and made good linking passes with Julia Firth and Judy Miller. Lisa Butler, Fiona Dunn and Jo Gaspar held up any attack around the 25-yard line and fed the ball to Woodroffe who took it from the opposition's 25-yard line into the D and had a confident strike at the keeper to level the score. It was not long before the opposition hit back and despite Bex Creasy making some good saves she was unable to stop a powerful direct shot. At half-time the team knew that they were under pressure but felt they could rise to the challenge. Laura Armstrong lifted her game and after receiving an excellent ball she put it swiftly past the keeper. This week Tavistock are at home at 10.30am at Kelly, playing Chudleigh.
