THE successful Tamar Valley line carnet scheme, which offers regular travellers discounted books of tickets for travel on the Gunnislake to Plymouth branch line, is being extended for a further six months. Each carnet contains ten single tickets between a Tamar Valley station and Plymouth which can be used on any train in either direction. New carnets go on sale at participating shops and post offices tomorrow (Friday) and are valid to June 30 2005. Rail partnership manager, Richard Burningham said the carnet had been a ?rip-roaring success.? ?The extension is very good news ? we hope sales will carry on increasing and that more and more people will find the combination of the carnet and the Tamar Valley line offers them a hassle-free, value for money alternative to their daily drive to Plymouth,? he said. Two carnets are available, Gunnislake or Calstock to Plymouth at £20 and Bere Alston/Bere Ferrers to Plymouth at £15. These offer big discounts on normal fares ? the peak hour return from Gunnislake to Plymouth is £5.60. The Tamar Valley line carnet is the first of its kind to be offered in a rural area and is also unique in that it is only sold through local shops and post offices. Sales outlets are: Lanterna at Bere Ferrers; the post office and John Brown?s at Bere Alston; Levine?s at Calstock; Albaston and Gunnislake post offices and Pearce?s Garage by Gunnislake station.
