Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 4 Plym Valley 5 WITH a few of the regular 1st XI squad missing it was going to be a real stretch for Tavistock to put up a good fight. The game opened with Tavistock dominant. The first goal came from Judy Miller who got on the end of a good ball from Becky Lamb which was crossed into the D. Lisa Butler and Fiona Dunn were solid in defence and Laura Stapleton and Sarah Barratt worked hard through the midfield. Rachel Stanyer, also in defence, made solid tackles which resulted in slowing up the attacking ball. Laura Armstrong had a good first half and battled well on the wing. Plym Valley were quick to equalise. Lamb dribbled the ball into the D and took a hefty shot at goal. Jo Gaspar was working hard and with herself and Miller linking, the ball was quickly fed into the attacking area. Short corners were awarded to Tavistock and Stapleton had a lovely shot at goal but it was disallowed due to the ball not being fully outside the D. Plym Valley scored again, taking the score to 2-2 at half-time. The second-half saw Bridget Passmore playing in defence and Stanyer moved up to midfield. Robynne Honey in goal made some good saves. The opposition scored two more goals but Tavistock dug their heels in and Gaspar scored an excellent goal to reduce the scoreline to 5-3. Barratt was able to have a last attempt to reduce the score and she scored the last goal of the match. This week Tavistock play their first league match against Dawlish away at 11.30am.
