SEVERAL events highlighting the special features of the Tamar Valley have been lined up for residents to enjoy during the coming days. Tomorrow (Friday), the wonders of night-flying creatures can be discovered with the aid of bat detectors and moth traps. Martin Summers will lead the Creatures of the Night event on Kit Hill, starting at 7.30pm and finishing at approximately 11pm. The cost is £2 for adults, £1 for under 16s/over 60s and includes a cup of soup. On Saturday September 2, Morwellham is the venue for Minerals, Moths and More ? an afternoon stroll along a nature trail when walkers can learn to recognise flora and fauna and discover the medicinal uses of plants. Martin Summers will explain the geology of the area and there will be an opportunity to examine one of the mineral piles at the site. A bat and moth watching evening will take place during the evening. The nature and geology walk is between 2pm and 5pm. Geological activities for children and the opportunity to enjoy a soup snack is between 6pm and 7pm, when the bat and moth watch takes place. The cost is £2 for adults, 50p for children, payable on the day. And on Sunday September 3 there will be a lowland amble around Kit Hill Country Park, when wardens can help walkers learn about the heath and its history.
