DJM Mayflower Division Under 11

Elm United . . . . . . . . . 4

Tavistock Thistles . . . . 1

IN the first match of the season, strong defending from Jack Quinn, Tom Simmons, Ian Harvey and Cadan Lowther meant that by half time, neither team had scored.

In the last twenty minutes of the second half, Tavistock fell behind by 2 goals from a determined Elm, despite sterling work from Joshua Leeson, Ben White, Ben Pridham, Elliot Hoyte and Rhys Dunford.

Bringing on substitute Matt Jefferies gave fresh energy to the side and Ben Langton scored from a free kick, Tavistock were not out of the game yet.

Further substitutions, bringing on James Northey and Ross Seward, for their first ever match, meant a renewed onslaught on Elm, but sadly no further goals.

Goalkeeper Phillip Snell, man of the match, excelled himself yet again, saving several attempts at goal as the match minutes ticked away.

In the dying minutes, Elm managed to score twice more to bring the score to 4:1.

A valiant effort and a good start to the season, showing a great deal of promise from a team who are new at an eleven a side game.
