Okehampton Columbines 5
Plym Vale 3
AN excellent first half from the Columbines kept Plym Vale on the defensive, with Okehampton playing some good hockey.
Jo Moppett's skills were too good for the Plym Vale defence and she caused them problems all afternoon. But the pace of Jo Drake on the left and the positioning of Sandy Douglas on the right gave Okehampton alternative outlets on the wing, with the Okehampton attack overwhelming the opposition.
It was not long before Moppett put Okehampton ahead, and this was shortly followed by a reverse flick goal from Alex Collins who kept her head when the ball fell to her in front of goal.
Moppett scored the third but in their first real attacking move of the game, Plym Vale pulled one back on the stroke of half-time.
Okehampton still had the upper hand in the second half, but their game was not so fluid.
Jane Jones was strong in defence at left half, and was able to push forward to support the Okehampton attack.
Carol Taylor also had a good match at centre half.
Jo Moppett scored two further excellent goals to secure the win, but Okehampton should probably have scored more.
Having worked very hard for their win, Okehampton tired in the last ten minutes and, although they were well taken, allowed Plym Vale the opportunity of pulling back two goals.
