FOR a centrepiece to light up your table and get your family talking this Christmas look no further than a unique Christmas cake designed by Okehampton resident Val Hoar. It is one of the prizes on offer in the Okehampton Hospital Appeal Draw.
Rather than lighting up the cake with candles, this one is battery-operated so the Christmas scene on top — a church with stained glass windows and frosted trees— is certain not to go unmissed. The light in the church window is wired up to a battery on a false base.
Val, a freelance administrator who also works for Social Services, says that with the exception of the black netting in the church and the artificial trees the remainder of the cake is edible.
The cake will be on display outside the Beanfeast in The Arcade tonight (Thursday) for Edwardian Evening where you can buy draw tickets. Other prizes include hampers from Waitrose and the Linen Cupboard and numerous other goodies.
The draw will be made on December 21 and tickets can also be purchased from the Hospital Appeal Shop in St James Street.
