Wiveliscombe Colts 17 Okehampton Colts 7 OKEHAMPTON started well with smooth handling in the backs making opportunities to test the Wiveliscombe defence. Andy Herrod-Taylor played very well at fly-half. His safe hands kept the ball moving smoothly down the line. The Okes soon broke through after Mark Shields dummied the defence and popped the ball, in the tackle, to fellow centre Chris Martin who fed Tom Powell. Sam Turner came on at a pace and stepped round two defenders for a fine try under the posts, converted by Shields. The Okes continued to move the ball wide, with wingers Powell and Ben Woollams making ground but unable to get through. Wiveliscombe counter attacked well and were rewarded with a try to end the half 7-5 to the Okes. The second half was to be an uphill struggle for the Okes. With quite a slope on the pitch and sticky conditions the pack began to tire. Being driven backwards is not something these Okes forwards have experienced this season, but Wiveliscombe dominated the scrums and won many balls against the head. With so much possession it was inevitable that the home side would break through. Scoring two tries in the last quarter, they deserved their win.
