Devon & Exeter Senior 3
Winkleigh 3
South Zeal 2
ALTHOUGH Zeal lost this match by the odd goal the team put in a tremendous second half performance having been 3-0 down at half-time and playing for 70 minutes with just ten men.
In the first half Winkleigh played some great football but could have been two goals down after Zeal failed to convert two good chances early on. Winkleigh took the lead after 15minutes when a shot from the edge of the penalty area gave Zeal keeper Adam Cann no chance.
Zeal created a few good chances but went further behind after 20 minutes when a shot from a Winkleigh forward was handled on the line and the resulting penalty put away to give the home side a two-goal advantage.
Zeal went three down just before half-time and it now looked as if a heavy defeat could follow.
With ten men Zeal gambled with three at the back and took the game to Winkleigh, several chances went begging but with 20 minutes left Harley Cann scored a great individual goal which lifted the team.
Winkleigh were often attacking with at least one spare man but the Zeal defence managed to keep them out. Alan Vile finished well in the far corner to set up a frantic final ten minutes where Zeal were unlucky not to get the equaliser their efforts deserved.
This week away to Pinhoe, kick-off 3pm.
