OKEHAMPTON and District Tennis Club fixtures started off on a winning note on Sunday June 25 with the junior boys involved in an under 16s match against Lympstone at Simmons Park.

Andrew Herrod Taylor and Jonathan Carter continued their impressive form — they were unlucky to lose the first set on a tie break 6-7, but recovered to win three remaining sets 6-1, 6-3, 6-4.

Scott Rose and Stuart Jarvis won two sets and lost two 6-2, 6-2 and 1-6, 2-6 to win the match 5-3. Scott as the senior member of the team continues to help and encourage Stuart, the youngest, to gain experience and confidence.

Meanwhile on courts 1 and 2 at Simmons Park, the men's B team were playing host to Country Club drawing their match 2-2.

Graham Gale and David Carter never got going in their first match losing 0-6; 1-6 but managed to win their next two sets 7-5, 7-5.

Andrew Carter and Alan Holman started well, winning 6-0, 3-6, 6-0,but lost the next match in 3 sets 6-3, 4-6, 3-6.

The ladies B team enjoyed a long and closely fought fixture against Newton Abbot Ladies, drawing 2-2

Beth Carter and Jackie Jarvis won their matches 6-1, 6-3 and 6-3, 6-1 while Teresa Sanderson and Judith Stephens played two three set marathons being unlucky to lose 4-6, 6-4, 3-6 and 6-4, 2-6, 5-7.

The men's A team travelled to Exeter to play Tunnels A team and struggled to find their form, losing 4-0 but enjoying the quality of the tennis. Paul Love and Phil Povey lost 6-1, 3-6, 3-6 and 3-6, 4-6 and Andrew Carter and Graham Mitchell lost 0-6, 0-6 and 6-2, 2-6, 1-6.

The ladies' A team welcomed Tiverton Ladies' A to Simmons Park for what proved to be an evening of enjoyable and hard played tennis

Number one partnership Lin Atkinson and Angela Herrod-Taylor lost 4-6, 3-6 before playing a long three set match and finally losing 6-3, 2-6 and 8-10. Nicola Ferguson and Marcia Jones continue to establish their partnership, after Nicola's return from injury, losing 6-7, 2-6 and 2-6, 1-6.

The ladies' B team were back in action on Friday against Tiverton B Ladies at Simmons Park.

Beth Carter and Teresa Sanderson won their first match 6-1, 6-4 and lost their second 2-6, 0-6. Sarah Carter and Beth Stephens lost 2-6, 0-6 before gong on to play a three set match culminating in a long third set which they were unlucky to lose 3-6, 6-2, 7-9.
