Plymouth University Ladies 1
Tavistock Ladies 5
TAVISTOCK ladies? hockey team opened this league match with strong attacks through the tactical play of Sue Gawman, Emma Bowden, Becky Hutton and Sue Cork. Tavistock were quick to stop any attack from the opposition and Kath Collar, Steph Mills, Susannah Harland and Becky Wallace were able to switch the ball over both sides of the pitch resulting in Plymouth University being pushed hard in their defensive area.
With a clear break Steph Mills took the ball into the D and made a good strike at goal allowing Tavistock to take the lead.
Laura Armstrong fed some good balls into the D but Tavistock were not as quick to capitalise on these and at times were forced to retreat in order to prevent any attack. Babs Horton switched the ball over to the left from some good solid hit outs and Fiona Dunn and Rebecca Creasy kept any free player from entering the D.
Kath Collar scored the second goal with a determined strike at the keeper.
Plymouth Uni managed to pull a ?flooky? goal back to end the first half of the match at 2-1.
The second half was more physical but Tavistock marked up players well, especially on the left as Sandra Collar, Horton and Wallace prevented the ball from being played too much on the left.
Gawman made some excellent crosses into the D, which Kath Collar was to get on the end of and score her second goal of the match.
Hutton was also keen to get a goal and it was the determination of herself, Bowden and Armstrong, which gave Tavistock numerous short corners. Bowden slotted the fourth goal past the keeper with style. Not to be left out as it was predominantly the midfield who were hungry for goals, Harland gave the ball a good crack to send it flying past the keeper.
This week Tavistock are home to Okehampton with a 12.30pm push-back.
