South Zeal Utd 3

University 1

UNIVERSITY came to Zeal on the back of some good results and with many of their other fixtures cancelled had a strong squad of players for this fixture.

Having lost at Thorverton the previous week Zeal were keen to get back to winning form again in an effort to stay at the top of the table.

Zeal kicked with the slope in the first half and were dominant from the start. Cann and Brimacombe were causing the University defence real problems, but the University keeper was having a great game and foiled the Zeal forwards several times before Henry Bellairs broke the deadlock from close range after a great run and pass from Brimacombe.

Zeal went two-up when Bellairs and White combined to send Harley Cann through on goal. This time Cann outsmarted the University keeper and slid the ball past him at the right-hand post.

In the second half University pressed the Zeal defence. But with Cleave Collins having a solid game as a replacement for the injured Adam Cann in goal and the rest of the Zeal defence in no mood to let the opposition through it was no surprise that Zeal went further ahead from a corner after about 15 minutes of the second half.

Dave Wooldridge, who was covering every inch of the pitch for Zeal, added the third. He took a corner from the left and after a shot from Garry Smith was blocked Wooldridge was on hand to beat the University defence for pace and slot the ball home.

University continued to press but Wonnacott, Saunderson and Jones would not let them through, however, with almost the last kick of the game, they scored a well deserved goal after some good work on the right hand side and a shot that went in just inside the left hand post.

This Saturday home to Okehampton, kick-off 2-30pm.

Team: Tim Saunderson, Henry Bellairs, Roger White, David Wooldridge, Garry Smith, Harley Cann, Shaun Hiscock, Alan Vile, Leon Ware , Alan Brimacombe, Phil Tyler, Cleave Collins, John Halliday, Reg Wonnacott.

The previous week Zeal lost a close game 3-2 away to Thorverton. Harley Cann and Roger White were the scorers for Zeal.
