TAVISTOCK'S Meadows Makeover group last week received an unexpected £1,000 boost.

The group, which is busy fundraising to provide new playground equipment in Tavistock Meadows, received the funds with the help of West Devon Borough Councillor Tavistock North ward member Cllr Jeff Moody and the Co-operative supermarket's store refurbishment company ISG.

During the refurbishment of the Market Street Co-operative supermarket, Cllr Moody received calls from local residents and businesses in the area concerning disruption during the refit.

Cllr Moody contacted the company directly to make it aware of the concerns by residents and businesses.

He said: 'I fully appreciate that the refurbishment of a store on Market Street poses significant logistical difficulties for contractors, particularly with the tight access, limited parking and the mix of residential and business units.

'I am delighted with ISG's response and its generosity. I would like to thank company senior project manager Ryan Wallace and account manager Gavin Hancox for their time, for listening and taking onboard the concerns of local residents and businesses.

'Their kind gesture of goodwill to the community and financial contribution to Meadows Makeover is commendable.'

Fellow Tavistock North ward member Cllr John Sheldon said: 'Cllr Moody has worked hard to resolve this issue for local residents and I am pleased that as a result the Tavistock Meadow's playground project has had an unexpected financial windfall.'

Mia Holman from Meadows Makeover said: 'The Meadows Makeover group is thrilled to have received the £1,000 donation and we thank Cllr Jeff Moody for making it all possible.

'We hope that we now have enough money to install the roundabout too.'

Businesses affected by the disruption during the refurbishment of the Co-operative were presented with a hamper by ISG to say thank you.
