A TYRE fire in a field at Ramsdown Cross, near Milton Abbot was tackled by Tavistock Fire Brigade this week.
Fire crews were called to the field where a quantity of tyres were well alight, causing thick acrid black smoke to be belched into the sky, on Monday evening.
Two appliances from Tavistock were mobilised for what fire chief Chris Neale described as a 'long, protracted and dirty job'.
The Environmental Agency and police are making further enquiries.
Fire crews tackled a kitchen fire at Ranson Way, Tavistock, on Tuesday morning. Two appliances were sent to the scene and firefighters put out the cooker in the kitchen which had caught alight. The owner of the property was given oxygen then taken by ambulance to Tavistock Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
