A STUDENT and a member of staff from Kelly College ran the recent Plymouth Half Marathon to raise money for the Kelly Olympic Legacy Pool Project.

This was the first of two fundraising events for swim coach Emma Collings. She finished the half marathon in just over 1 hour and 56 minutes.

Emma is planning on furthering her fundraising efforts by completing a 20-mile assault course, ominously titled 'The Rat Race Dirty Weekend', this month.

Upper sixth former and head girl Ellen Riis-White also completed the half marathon. Ellen, who has already been selected to run at county level this year, showed her quality by finishing in 1 hour 49 minutes — all the more impressive as she only had a week to prepare.

All the funds raised by the athletes are being donated to the pool project. The college was awarded an Olympic Legacy 50-metre pool following the Olympic Games in 2012.

It will provide an Olympic Legacy, by not only enhancing the development of the Kelly Swimming Squad, but also by providing a facility for many local and national swimming clubs and the wider community of West Devon and beyond.
