CALLINGTON'S Prim-Raf amateur drama group is breaking with tradition and presenting two one act plays from December 4 to 6 in their Biscombe Lane Theatre.
'In by the Half', by Jimmy Chinn, is based on Madam, a once distinguished actress, living quietly with her ex-dresser, Doris, who counters her domineering boss with a number of amusing exchanges. A forlorn young woman, with misplaced ambitions to be an actress, often calls.
But comedy gives way to poignant drama when Madam's estranged daughter arrives with significant reasons for reaching a reconciliation.
'Getting Along', by Charles Mander, is a fast paced and hilarious comedy, based on Henry and Helen and their three widowed friends holidaying at a rundown French gite.
Henry becomes concerned that his wife has run off and that the gite is surrounded by French gunmen and that his friends are either demented or rabid. The hectic pace eventually subsides to reach a tender and happy conclusion.
Both plays are directed by Anthony Nelson. Tickets are available from the opticians in the town or at the door, with a concession on the first night for OAPs.
