A FIRE which destroyed a 15 tonne swing shovel digger near Winkleigh is under investigation. Two fire crews, one from Hatherleigh and one from North Tawton, attended the fire at Moortown Farm, but the digger was well alight by the time they reached it just after 5am. Four breathing apparatus, two hosereels and two dry powder extinguishers were used to extinguish the fire, which caused a slight threat to adjacent barn buildings. The Environment Agency was called as heavy duty fuel was running into streams, but there was no contamination.
