CHAGFORD firefighters were called to a barn fire on the road between Cheriton Bishop and Dunsford in the early hours of Monday morning.

The Chagford crew and another crew from Exeter were called to the fire at 5am. It was well advanced on arrival and firefighters were at the scene for several hours tackling the blaze.

Investigators were unable to identify what had caused the fire.

l Last Saturday night, Chagford firefighters were called out to their first chimney fire of the season.

It occurred at a farm between Chagford and Throwleigh at around 8pm and was extinguished by the crew of one fire appliance from Chagford.

Station officer Kevin Coombe said the incident should serve as a reminder to home-owners of the need to have their chimneys swept to avoid build-ups of soot, birds nests and other materials which can increase the risk of fire.

l Okehampton firefighters were called out to tackle a vehicle fire at Fowley Cross last Tuesday evening November 2.

One fire engine was called to the scene and the crew arrived to find the vehicle well alight and two sets of breathing apparatus were used to put out the blaze.
