FIREFIGHTERS were called to a chimney fire at a home on South Street in Hatherleigh last Friday. One crew from Hatherleigh attended just after 10.05am and tackled the blaze using a hose reel, a 135ft ladder, a roof ladder and chimney gear. On Saturday, firefighters from Hatherleigh were called to a chimney fire at a thatched cottage on Rectory Road in Winkleigh. One crew from Hatherleigh and one from Torrington attended just before 9.50pm. On arrival the crews confirmed a chimney fire involving a wood burner. Chimney gear was used to tackle the blaze.
