A POLICE Land Rover was involved in a dramatic chase up one of Dartmoor's steeper tors last week — ending in the arrest of two men thought to be responsible for an epidemic of vehicle break-ins.

PC Dave Grimbly said a covert operation by police last Wednesday, February 2, sparked a pursuit across the moor through Princetown and towards Tavistock at speeds of up to 100mph as Tavistock officers homed in on a stolen car.

It crashed at Pork Hill, the driver and his passenger making off on foot. The driver hid but the passenger was chased up Cox Tor by PC Mark Hoar, eventually giving up when overtaken by the Land Rover driven by PC Grimbly.

The driver was found nearby and both were arrested. PC Grimbly said both men were found to be wanted for other offences and are believed to be responsible for a recent spate of thefts from cars.
