MID Devon Pony Club?s Sarah and Laura Gomersall (pictured above) from South Zeal qualified for the national tetrathlon championships last weekend.
They will join Jess Trerise in the club?s senior girls? team and hopefully go one better than last year when the team finished as runners-up. The qualifying competition was held near Chippenham and organised by Area 9.
The girls swam really well with Sarah improving her PB and Laura equalling hers. The riding course was interesting and the girls rode intelligently to go clear, although both had a few time faults. The time was so tight that only two of the senior girls finished inside it.
The wind was beginning to get rather blustery as the running phase started but Laura finished with the second fastest time and Sarah the third.
The final scores showed Laura second and Sarah fourth, with Tamsynn Barrington from the Tetcott and South Tetcott separating them.
All three girls set off with their horses to Norfolk this weekend where they will represent the South West in the inter regional competition.
The national championships take place at Moreton Morrell and the Mid Devon girls will be joined by other South West competitors, including teams from the South Devon Moorland, Lamerton and North Cornwall branches, and individuals from the Tetcott, East Devon and East Cornwall clubs.
