A GRANT of £5,000 was recently granted to a Tavistock club — allowing the group to develop technically. The Tavistock Turners and Carvers Club was recently awarded the grant from the Lottery Fund through the Awards for All scheme. The money will be spent on a new lathe and associated equipment, together with audio and visual equipment to improve the club's facilities for demonstrators and teaching generally. In the past two years the club has continued with a mixture of invited demonstrators from Devon and Cornwall, and 'hands on' evenings on club nights. Group members have also become regulars at the Pencarrow and Princetown Craft Shows, together with occasional visits elsewhere. A lathe is also taken for demonstrations and a varied selection of members' work for sale. The club meets on the third Monday in each month at 7.15pm in the Scout Hut in Tavistock. New members are welcome to join in and have a go. For more information contact secretary John Reynolds on 01822 617266.
