PLAYING music in a junk band with Okehampton arts and music charity Wren is one of the arts and ecology workshops which are on offer at a sustainability day next Friday (August 17) near Exeter. The day at Haldon Forest Park, Buller?s Hill, Kennford has been organised by the South West Participatory Arts Network, of which Wren founder Marilyn Tucker is the chair. The event is for West Country artists, workshop leaders and community groups who are interested in the future of their arts work. There will be a morning of seminars on such topics as how to survive changes in arts funding schemes, how arts project work can live on and how to assess the environmental impact of arts work. For children there will be a forestry adventure. A lunchtime guided walk to see rare species and birds of prey will be followed by a range of workshops including how to run a 12-volt solar stage to playing in a junk band. The workshops will not only be a window to peer practice but will also provide ideas on how to build ecological and sustainable elements into artists? own workshops. For further information on the day which runs from 9.30am to 4.30pm contact Wren 01837 53754.
