AS thoughts of summer barbecues and walks along the beach come gradually to a close, Tamar Valley AONB team is inviting people to make September the month to try something new in the Tamar Valley. Helping Hands for Heritage is picking up pace with a choice of volunteering opportunities this month, providing new skills and benefiting the landscape of the AONB. Join Tim Kellett from the Ancient Tree Forum to learn more about Antony Estate's veteran trees, on Saturday, September 20. Enjoy a free day within the stunning National Trust grounds near Torpoint finding out what makes the trees so special and how to identify and record them. Following this session, volunteers will be encouraged to identify and survey trees in their local areas to help contribute to wider conservation of our landscape. The much awaited fieldwalking event will take place on the Pentillie Estate at Tinnel Farm near Cargreen, on Saturday, September 27. Step back in time and discover how people used to live by joining the hunt for archaeological evidence, including pottery sheds, flint flakes and building debris. The farm, perhaps dating back to the Bronze Age, once housed a small farming community and a central yard. Today, only the farmhouse, cottage and their outbuildings remain. Booking is essential for this free event, which will be held in conjunction with Saltash Heritage. Anyone who would rather help with car parking, washing the finds or other general duties, should also get in touch. To book, for further information on the events, or for more details about the Helping Hands for Heritage project, contact Sam Barnes at the Tamar Valley AONB office on 01822 835050 or email [email protected]">[email protected]
